About the film
Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane, and Naïma have all grown up under challenging circumstances. As young mothers or mothers-to-be, they now live together in a mother-and-child home in Wallonia, where they find support, safety, and a sense of belonging. Although each of them has her own story, filled with personal struggles, hopes, and dreams, a quiet solidarity emerges among them, offering comfort in the face of isolation. ‘Jeunes mères’ ('Young Mothers') is a mosaic-style film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where the Dardenne brothers received the award for Best Screenplay. Most of the cast consists of non-professional actors, with the young women at the heart of the story delivering remarkably honest and powerful performances.
